For the past 10 years no one has seen Jesse grace any type of stage, until this pervious weekend in San Fransisco. Common Rider played a suprise set at Lookout! Records anual 3 day festival of punk rock. The set only lasted 4 songs for was an amazing return and debut for Common Rider.

Common Rider is the name of the new band featuring Jesse
Michaels (formerly of Operation Ivy) and the rhythm section of
Mass Giorgini and Dan Lumley (who also play in the bands
Screeching Weasel and Squirtgun).
Common Rider formed in January 99 as a vehicle to put forth a
bunch of songs Jesse had written since the Op IV days. From this
starting point Mass and Lumley contributed many excellent
musical ideas and the songs really took on a life of their own. This
resulted in the band recording a full length CD, Lp, Cassette titled
"Last Wave Rockers" for Panic Button Records,
which will be in
stores on May 25th.
The music on this LP is similar to Operation Ivy in spirit but
emphasizes mellower rocksteady and rock and roll grooves
(however, Ben Weasel has been heard to say "this is a punk
record whether Jesse admits it or not!")
Common Rider is threatening to tour but have no immediate plans
as certain logistical matters have to be worked out, such as: how
to have band practice when members live in different states!
In spite of this the "Last Wave Rockers" record displays a
musical
chemistry which is dynamic enough that it seems likely to explode
onto the stage soon. Everybody at Panic Button and everybody in
Common Rider is very excited about this record and feel confident
that the sound and message of this music will be something that
people enjoy.

may be touring in the Fall, no word yet on definite dates.
